XXIV. MUNICIPAL DAYS IN MARCELOVÁ - SLOVAKIA

„A Meeting for our Joint Future“ – Town Twinning 2023

The representatives of our municipality have attended an event organised in the framework of the "Town Twinning for our Joint Future" (101091173, Twinning our Future) project co-funded by the European Union, via the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (CERV-2022-CITIZENS-TOWN-TT), in Marcelová, Slovakia, on the days of 9th – 11th of June, 2023.

Our delegation was welcomed by the mayor of the municipality, Ervin Varga. The event has included a variety of programme elements, including a workshop focusing on three relevant thematic areas:

"The present and future of twin municipalities in the European Union".

"Good practices, successes and experiences of the twin municipalities’ EU project activities"

"What have we achieved since our last meeting and where are we headed?"

A series of skills competitions for children, a cooking competition, as well as a football tournament for students took place. We have participated in a wine tasting on the "Old Hill", which proved to be another excellent opportunity for productive discussions and mutual exchange of experiences. A new Wine Knight was inaugurated within an oath-taking ceremony.

This was followed by the cultural programme series of kindergarteners, schoolchildren, seniors, traditional groups and majorettes. Concerts in various styles were held during Friday and Saturday, with performances by music groups and performers, such as Desperado, V-Tech, Groovehouse, Essem, Kunu Márió, Opitz Barbi and Herceg, the 3+2 band, DJ Szemi, DJ M Junior and DJ Csinti. We have also attended the Sunday Mass and the lunch that followed, where we jointly evaluated the event itself, as well as the mutual relations.

In light of the above, the project and the implementation of the event contributed to deepening mutual understanding and friendship between citizens and communities, as well as to the revival of social and cultural life. Participants were able to get acquainted with the meaning of citizenship in the European Union, the values and principles of the EU and how these are reflected in people's daily lives.
